Which TV - Samsung 40" or Vizio 42"?

The Samsung will cost about $1,110 online after shipping that will take 7-10 days, no tax. The Vizio is at Sam's club and will cost 1056 + membership. I could run and get the Vizio today if I wanted to. They are both new in box, and have identical specifications, except the Samsung has a contrast ratio of 3000:1 compared to the Vizio's 800:1. I looked at the Vizio and some Samsungs and they both look great. Warranties are the same too. HELP!

Answer:
Many times Sam's and Costco have the same things - sometimes a minor change in model number. Check and see if Sam's has the Panasonic 42" PX6U, or similar, or check out a Costco if you have one close. Warranty is extended to 2 years and a 90 day, no questions asked return policy, with no restocking fee. Price is close and it's a best buy. the 50" has a 10,000:1 contrast, and I think the 42" does too.
If it looks great to you, then why not buy the vizio? PLUS, you get the added bonus of long-term warranty and return priviledges with Sams's club that you don't get with online ordering.
We bought the Vizio 42" at Sam's and we love it for the price this is a great tv. We also have a Sony Bravia that we paid 3400 for and it is a 40" and I really don't see a big difference in the two. I would get two Vizio next time for the price of the one Sony. I guess it is all in how big you are into electronics but for the average Joe just wanting a good picture at the best and lowest price you can't beat the Vizio.
As a home theater installer I am a big fan of the samsung. Why? The contrast ratio on the samsungs are some of the highest out there. Many people may not notice the difference between these two in stores due to the lighting and settings on the tv. Without knowing the model numbers of the sets your looking at I couldn't give you a complete compare and contrast of the two. From my experience the samsungs are a more reliable tv. The only issue I have run into with the samsungs is many do not want output a 480i signal through an up converting reciver or dvi to hdmi adapter. If money is not an issue I would buy the Samsung LNT4065 or the LNT4066(a best buy model). I personally own last years model the LNT4095 and I love it. As far as manufacture warranties go they are good but nothing solves an issue with a defective or broken tv like a service plan from a retailer.
I'd go for the Vizio, a little bigger screen size and it is a little cheaper, and from what i've heard and read and compared at http://www.consumerreports.com they are very close together.. So go for the Vizio, I promise you you'll have no regrets. And if you don't like it, you can return it easily since it's store bought, and buy the samsung later. So its a win-win situation, you cannot lose. So if I was in your position, I would go with the Vizio 100%.
I bought the Vizio and I love it.. I have it in my bedroom and I wouldn't trade it for anything.. I must say though I was in the TV repair business for years and Samsung is a solid brand. I almost never got them in for repairs. Also if you have a costco, they also sell the Vizio and they beat the Sams club price, plus their warranty and return policy rocks.. Hope this helps.
If your looking at the GV42LHDTV from Vizio its panel is manufactured by guess who! Samsung. so its almost the same tv. if you go with the L42 which they don't sell much expect to clear out older models, that panel is made by Sharp. Or you can wait 2 weeks for the wal-mart launch and get the new VW42LHDTV10A by vizio at wal-mart for even less but that model does not come with a programmable remote so it will only control the tv

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.d...

its already online and shipped out and sold at some stores and it hits all wal-marts may 25 suggested retail for 900.00 but many wal-marts durning the big launch will be less and no shipping or memebership charges. It also comes with our one year warranty
You would want to get the Samsung because of its higher contrast ratio. It would not look wash out. Interestingly you have already made the visual comparison. Could be the set up is not proper at the store?
3000:1 contrast on Samsung it's equal to 600:1 in native resolution so Vizio actually give you a better contrast ratio. I will suggest you pick up LCD TV this size in local because if anything wrong you can always return it in the store. If you live somewhere they have Frys maybe try to print out their price and show to the bestbuy, circuitcity, or sears to match the price :) I hope this help. BTW, I saw many on sale items in sears yesterday but not sure if they are doing the same thing in your area.
Samsung would be the way to go dude, I own one and this thing is sweet GO SAMSUNG...
