Sony Wega KV27 FS 100--VIDEO 1 or 3 on display permanently?

I just bought a used flat screen Sony Wega KV27 FS 100 and the channel number "3" is on the upper right hand corner permanently--won't go away. And if you're playing a DVD the "VIDEO 1" is displayed in the upper left hand corner. How do I get rid of these?
(The TV didn't come with a remote, I'm in the process of ordering a replacement. Does the remote have a button that can get rid of these?)
I saw a posting from a year ago and the only answer suggested using the remote to get rid of this pesky problem. What say you?

Unfortunatly, you need the remote. The remote has a "display" button that will make that go away just by pressing that button. So when you get your remote, just do that. For some reason Sony TV's only allow you to do that with the remote. I find it frustrating.
I have the same TV. You need a universal remote or sony remote and press the Display button to make it disappear.
