I have a cable wire but im not sure if it will work on a splitter it was on an antenna but it has the metal?
Answer:
You can use the old cable, as long as it is coax & the ends look ok it will work fine. Just get yourself a 2-way splitter & run whatever length you need. You didn't say if it was RG6 or RG59 but either will work.
If the splitter input/output receptacles are for RG-59 video cable, there shouldn't be any problem. If you are trying to split a Cable signal from your Cable Company, I wouldn't advise it. They use RG-6 cable and their splitters are higher quality from the regular standard Antenna type splitters. Higher quality in that the signal loss through these splitters is lower for cable type line. Although you probably won't notice the difference, I think it is illegal to split a cable company signal without their permission. Your call.
Just get a new wire that is proper for cable. The one from the old metal antenna is not the same type. You can buy premade wires and splitters for cable in several lengths from radio shack or a home improvment store. They arent that espensive. No one will ever know you did it.
