What can I adjust inside my TV when the picture shrinks to one smudge going across?
Answers: You have no vertical sweep !!
It will be any the vertical amp chip that is deceased OR with luck only just bad soldered joint on the vert amp chip !! ( very adjectives ).
It is very particularly NOT the Pic Tube going bad !!

you own no vertical sweep, its probaly a vertical amp switch, you can hire a tv repair technician to come take a look and fix. but it will cost more than what the tv is worth. ego start looking at a new tv. or possibly call a repair place to find a estimate. you dont say how feeble the set is or how big it is but im guessing that it wouldnt be worth puting the money into. id invest contained by a new devout name brand tv. apposite luck
