Comcast Cable and other remote controls.?

Comcast recently gave me a 3 and 1 remote to control their digital converter cable box.. It took awhile but I finally got it to work right.
My question is this however. I would like to be able to use my old remote (Cinema 7) as a back up if anything breaks. I have done everything I know and finally got the Comcast Remote to be able to control my A/V receiver but I can't find anything about getting my Cinema 7 to be able to control my TV channels? As you know, Comcasts cable box is set to Channel 3, but their channel up or channel down buttons don't affect that. When I try to use my Cinema 7 remote, when I push channel up or channel down I instantly get a snow filled picture of nothing. So, how can I get the Cinema 7 to change channels like the Comcast 3 and 1 does? Geeez, I hope that makes sense.:) Thanks a lot

Answer:
what kinda box? motorola/pace/ GE or panasonic? looking up the model on the net from which company makes it and it should give you the remote code... it might not work with that remote

the easiest thing to do for an extra remote is just ask the local cable guy... anywhere you see him on the road, quick check .. tell him your remote broke and tell him the type of tv..rca, sony and he will give you a free reomte..
Not all remotes can control set top boxes. Most remotes only control VCR, DVD and TVs.

I would just buy a Logitech Harmony remote. This will control your Comcast and any home theater device you have. It's the most universal remote that I have ever seen on the market. It has programmable buttons and a huge device database.
