In my opinion, anything with the word "dell" in it is bad. They don't have great computers and the contrast ratio isn't that great. Why don't you look at the sharp aquos or if you want really nice, try the samsung, they are really great and hd.
The contrast ratio is fine. A 1200:1 contrast ratio means that your blacks are 1200 times darker than the white. Lower contrast ratio's will mean that your blacks may just end up being darker shades of gray and the like.
However you can bet that Dell's just slapping their name on someone else's TV.
When making an investment on an HDTV you're better served by going into a retail store and at least comparing your choices there before making any purchase decision.
I will agree that Samsung has some nice ones, as does Sharp and Sony.
Don't buy online without comparing units in person. Granted that's not possible with the Dell, in which case I'd pass on it.
Dell's are very, very bad units. I have personally unistalled about 50 of them. They have very bad video processing. I was a little surpized at how bad they are considering I always thought Dell made a good product. They missed the mark on the HDTVs. Go with a Sharp or Sony. You can't go wrong with either.
Check out these two models:
Sony KDL32XBR2
Sharp 32D62
The sharp is 1080P and a little less so I think it is a better deal.
