How can you get HD channels?

I have direct tv with the HD receiver but how do I hook it up so that I receive the channels in between channels? Is that how it works?

Answer:
the directv hd receiver gets the digital over the air channels with an extra antenna.

You tune them in by entering the channel number , the dash, and the sub-channel number.

the dash is bottom left on the remote.

I like watching 7-3 (our local weather channel!)
The "channels in between channels" is from a portion of DTV called ATSC. The DirecTv box does not use this system. Most of the HD direcTv shows are from 75-100.

If you want to see the other channels, like 4-1, 4-2, etc. you are going to need;
A: Have a TV with a built in HDTV tuner.
B: be in an area where you can receive them off the air from local stations.
C: Have an antenna connected to the TV.
