Okay so my Tv was working fine when I went sleep but when I turned it on after I woke up, the image was all dark and distorted. I moved it away from any possible magnets or points of interference. That still didn't correct the problem, so I hit it, I hit about 4 or 5 good times and the image finally cleared up. But now it's become a frequent occurence for the screen to darken and distort. I can't afford to purchase a new TV right now so I was wondering if anyone knows a more permanent fix for the problem other than constantly hitting my Tv or buying a new one.

You have a bad soldered joint and from your description it would be difficult to guess where abouts the fault lies, however any reasonable TV Tech should find it a routine fix .

sounds to me like you have a tv from the 1950,s lol..bet you have a HOTPOINT too and a SINGER sewing machine,a HOOVER hoover .nope i think it has to be a new one matey
Hum maybe you should open it up..
try to see if there is something in there that shouldn't be..
Maybe you spill ed something on it...
Or if you really wanna be messed up you can bye a TV the exact same one you have and keep the new one and return the old one and say that you bought it broken!
Or if your really desperate try Salvation army good TVs for like 30 dollars
or good will and pond shops and thrift store!
