You can panorama HD DVDs (and Blu-ray disks) on a regular TV, but there would be tremendously little benefit since you won't see any resolution improvement ... single a bit better colour ... and, if you have suitable audio equipment, some superior audio.
Furthermore, you have to hold an HD DVD player (or Blu-ray player) to play the disks ... you can't use a normal DVD player.

HD DVDs are far more tightly encoded than majority DVDs, a normal DVD player is incapable to reading them. Only a HD DVD player close to the Toshiba HD-E1 can play them."

u can still watch the hd dvds on a common tv but u need a hd dvd player which costs going on for $200-300. it won;t look any better than a dvd on a normal tv.
the point the hd dvds r cheaper is cuz no one make hd dvd players anymore. blu ray is very soon the flaghip hd technology.
