Answers:    Of the 2 you list, the Sharp is superior! Philips/Magnavox (same mfg.) are pretty much bottom of the butt in name brand TVs - opening too many consumer complaints.
In a 50"-52" LCD, my choice would be 1. Sony Bravia; & 2. Toshiba Regza. Probably Sharp and Samsung would be tied for 3rd. Another way to progress is with a Panasonic Viera 50" plasma. Truly a fine HDTV and tops in execution and reliability. Good hunting.
