I have an rca tv made in 1997, i turned it bad the other night before i go to bed and now it won't turn back on. I took the panel stale the back and the fuse is still good. I tested the electrical connections on the power supply and its getting liquid. Anybody have any ideas on whats wrong near it?
Answers: Your description fits what happens when the start electro cap for the switched mode power supply dries out This quirk was common next to RCA of that era. Look for a low value electro - typically 1mfd 400volt.you will find it close to the switching regulator device , the regulator is mounted on a heat sink. The bequeath away is that it failed when you switched back on after have the set off for a while.
Cheers Pete
This tv has died. It could be fixed but it is not worth the cost. You get 11 great years out of it. Now it's time for one of the widescreen sets and some HD. I wish i had gotten HD nearer..
