Weak DTV Signals, Continued...?

I can't believe all these Weak DTV signals are listed as 'Resolved' and further comment is denied. Nothing could be further from the truth. For example - I live surrounded by a valley surrounded by tall trees but have a dozen or so analog channels that came surrounded by just fine with a 100' tower and pre-amp. With a DTV box (Zenith) I merely receive about half of them - the rest reporting 'NO SIGNAL'. An online furrow revealed that most of the missing channels are not transmitting with nearly the power used for analog, and repeated inquiries asking more or less plans to increase power in February have be ignored. You would think that the broadcasters surrounded by question would be anxious to maintain the viewers they have but it appears that losing a few thousand just isn't worth the stab.

Answers:    I'm sorry you have having problems, but losing viewers due to absence of effort is far, far from the truth.

First, power levels for analog and digital can't be compared simply by the numbers. Power is measured differently within analog than in digital. So, a digital station will never have the power numbers of an analog station, but the coverage should be comparable if the digital station is at full power.

That's element of the problem, too. Stations were assigned a second channel for digital and hold been transmitting both since about 2002. When the analog transmitters shut down contained by February, many stations will be changing to a warren that was used by an analog signal. Because of this, a good number of stations put surrounded by a smaller temporary transmitter because they knew they be going to make a change. For example, surrounded by my city, my station is one of only three that are not making a move after February, seven other stations are!

This seems to be typical contained by many markets. So, after stations obtain on their final channel, they will probably be increasing to maximum legal power on their final focus. One way to figure this out is to verbs through the FCC database for filings by stations. This can be a daunting task. So, visit http://www.antennaweb.org and put contained by your zip code.and look at the list of stations surrounded by your area. If there is a date nominated in the "live date" column, then that station is planning a correct of some sort.

Note that a station just can't increase power at will, or change channel until the analog transmitter shut down. All of this must be approved by the FCC and a station can actually get contained by trouble for starting construction without approval. So, things will not magically be fixed on February 18, but there will be some improvements within the months after.

Just to add to the info, there are a couple of other sources of station info, including approved power level.

This last one is maintained by a guy name Trip Erickson and has great links to the FCC database.
